“I believe that a lot of courses have great, catchy slogans saying they have that ‘Up North’ feel, but that’s what customers come off the course telling us every day,” director of golf Jason Myers said. “Raymond Hearn had a wonderful piece of property to work with, and it looks like 230 acres of Gaylord.

“We love our friends up north, but sometimes it’s nice to play on courses that are just as nice without having to drive so far.”

Rolling hills surrounded by trees, wetlands, marshes and marshland creates scenery similar to that several hours north.

Moose Ridge is set on a site that was a former raspberry farm, and players of all abilities have their pick of challenges from different points and tee boxes on the course. The par-71 course features five sets of tees, playing from 4,919 yards in the front and 6,892 yards from the tips.

“It’s not an Arnold Palmer-type course with a bunker in front of every green or water on every hole, but it can definitely be a tough track,” Myers said.

The unique circular layout at Moose Ridge has the back nine playing around the perimeter of the collection of holes creating the front. The course sets up over 7,000 yards from the tips.

The bunkers are well placed, and soft and plush to the extent that it is almost a pleasure to play out of them.

A couple of ponds and marshy wetlands accent the well-groomed bent grass conditions. Some holes have up to 75-feet in vertical separation.

The par-3 No. 16 hole is one that showcases the elevation change. The elevated tee looks up to a green with a pond on one side. There are some areas that are undulated when it comes to the topography.

Moose Ridge features rolling terrain and a couple of elevated tee areas, including one at No. 16 that can be seen on the drive to the clubhouse.

“You’re not hitting straight up a hill blindly or straight off a cliff,” Myers said. “It’s nice because you can actually see where you’re hitting the ball.”

The No. 4 hole at Moose Ridge plays long and strong, a definite 3-shot par 5, stretching 630 yards from the tips of the tees to the green. It features a large waste bunker to the right off the tee and wetlands along the left on the second shot with a peninsula-like green tucked into marshlands.

“It’s target golf in some spots,” Myers said. “There are definitely places you want to hit it and don’t want to hit it.

No. 16, a 179-yard par-3 that can be seen on the way to the parking lot, features the large elevation drop downhill to the green, with water to the right.

The finishing hole is a risk-and-reward reachable par-5 playing 515 yards from the tips. The dogleg right has a tree standing in the center of the fairway splitting it and offering options.

Located in Green Oak Township near South Lyon, Moose Ridge is accessible from either I-96 or US-23.
The clubhouse facility and grill area features a banquet facility that can accommodate over 100 people.
