How do you improve a property that’s among Golf Digest’s Top 75 Golf Resorts in North America? Open a golf academy featuring Michigan’s hottest PGA Professional.

The new Golf Academy at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa will be directed by PGA Professional Scott Hebert. Hebert’s reputation is renowned. Resort guests and Club Members have relied on him for pointers and lessons since he joined the 900-acre property in 1997 as a golf assistant. Today, he’s Head Golf Professional and looking forward to his additional title with the Golf Academy.

“We’re excited to showcase Scott’s teaching talent with our new Golf Academy,” said Resort Director of Golf Tom McGee. We know Scott is a terrific player with strong teaching ability, and this will bring it to the forefront.”
The reigning Michigan PGA Player of the Year, an honor he has held four times previous, Hebert also holds six Michigan Open titles. Additional accolades include being the key player for the winning USA Team in the 2009 PGA Cup, winner of the 2008 PGA Professional National Championship and he competed in the PGA Championship four times.

Under Hebert’s direction, the Golf Academy is staffed April-October, and offers private instruction, one-, two-, and three-day schools, on-course instruction, team builds, ladies-only schools, junior camps, clinics for corporate groups, the public, juniors, and ladies, academy memberships, and club fitting.

The Golf Academy’s 2,000 square-foot building is yards away from three great courses – The Bear, The Wolverine, and Spruce Run. It boasts three heated, indoor/outdoor hitting bays equipped for video and computer analysis that’s included with instruction (students take home a review video).

In winter months, the facility serves as the Resort’s Winter Golf Center offering lessons and practice sessions.  It is the only facility in northern Michigan where golfers can see the flight of their ball in winter. And you’ll find Hebert there.

It’s a natural fit for Hebert, and a natural improvement for this grand resort.
